DRC-Link

The DRC-Link is device that plugs into a USB port on a PC or laptop. It provides the physical interface between the PC computer and the SM2. The DRC-Link is a universal interface and can be used for the entire line of telemetry-enabled products offered by Desert RC.

While it is not needed to run the SM2 Application by itself, one of these interface devices is required to perform any operations between the PC and the SM2 hardware, such as programming the SM2 configuration.

The DRC-Link performs several functions that conform to the DRC-Bus Communication Protocol such as locating SM2 and other DRC products that are connected to the DRC-Bus, and other automatic scheduling functions. It is fully compatible with the DRC-Bus small-area computer network consisting of a 3-wire cable providing power, ground, and one serial signal wire.

The power provided by the DRC-Link to the SM2 and other telemetry-enabled DRC products is limited. The amount of power provided by the DRC-Link is sufficient to power the SM2 for programming purposes, but the power is not sufficient to drive servos, receivers, or gyros. It is recommended that the SM2 be powered using normal system batteries when the DRC-Link is used.

DRC-Link products sold after May, 2011 are provided with a two-wire cable that does not provide power to the SM2 and avoids problems caused by excessive current draw when servos or other electronic devices are connected to the SM2.
